Calling all teachers! Want to teach your students a bit more about STEM while having a hands-on experience? Think about setting up a field trip to one of our locations! While you visit, students will be led by our instructors who will aid them in building their own robots that they will be able to take home with them! As students build their robots, they will learn about how robots operate from the smallest of gears, to how circuits work and how tools like screwdrivers are safely used. Our goal is to help inspire students to start learning STEM and jumpstart their critical thinking skills. Depending on the ages of the students, the questions asked by our Roboteer staff will vary in difficulty and depth of explanation. Slide Ranch is a nonprofit educational farm on coastal public parkland in West Marin. We host day visits and overnight visits from school and community groups of all ages (pre-k through adult), most typically on Tuesdays-Saturdays. Groups range in size from 6 to 60. Day visits typically occur from 10am-2pm, and include milking our goats, feeding our chickens, an activity in our garden and a cooking activity or a hike. Overnight visits include more involved versions of the same, and also include things like a campfire and/or night hike. Overnight visitors often bring their own camping gear, although we have some gear to lend to groups who need it. Overnight groups also bring their own food for all meals which they cook themselves (we have all the cooking and serving gear - just bring the food). All of our activities are NGSS aligned, and can be taught thematically to match the interests of the group (for example, we can offer themes focusing on "food, clothing and shelter;" natural ecology; food systems; sustainability; stewardship etc). There are costs associated with visiting Slide Ranch, however we offer a wide range of scholarships and work hard to ensure no groups are turned away for lack of funds. Nestled on 400 acres in the heart of California's wine country, Safari West is home for over 400 exotic mammals and birds. Not a zoo, not a drive-through park, it's a wildlife preserve where the whole family can experience some of nature's most beautiful animals in a natural habitat. Established by Peter Lang in 1989, Safari West gained membership in the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, one of only six private facilities in North America to belong to that prestigious organization. The ongoing mission of Safari West is wildlife preservation through breeding, education, research and public interaction.
The Zoo transforms for three nights of safe, traffic-free trick-or-treating for monster- ous thrills and chills including a Trick or Treat Trail, Boo-Choo-Choo train rides, Creepy Crawly encounters, Spooky Storytelling, Goblin Games, and more. Most popular family Halloween festival in the tri-counties area.
