All students enjoy our $11 field trip whale watching cruise rate per person (retails for $37.50) Good for public schools, private schools, home schools, & all types of kids groups. Newport Landing provides multiple whale watching and dolphin cruises daily year round aboard our specifically built-for-whale-watching ships, the Ocean Explorer and the Legacy. Our cruises depart from Newport Harbor in Newport Beach. Newport Harbor is s surrounded by the famous coastlines of Laguna Beach and Newport Beach. On one of our whale watching cruises you can expect to see dolphins, sea lions, marine birds and, of course, whales. The winter and spring months bring the annual grey whale migration with over 10,000 gray whales participating and the summer and fall months, giant blue whales which migrate into the coastal waters in the hundreds to feed. Along with gray whales and blue whales, see humpback whales, minke whales, finback whales, and many species of dolphin year round. Over 2300 whales were viewed in 2019! Why are there some many whales just outside of Newport Harbor? The answer is the unique marine ecosystem which brings nutrient rich waters very close to shore. The unique ecosystem is so special that a 15 mile state marine protected park was created in 2012 to ensure this rich environment remains for generations to come. Reserve your $11 student cruises online at http://www.newportwhales.com/whalewatchingprices.html#reserve and on the last page of checkout enter Promo "11whale" in voucher code box and click apply voucher or just give us a call at 949-675-0551. Slide Ranch is a nonprofit educational farm on coastal public parkland in West Marin. We host day visits and overnight visits from school and community groups of all ages (pre-k through adult), most typically on Tuesdays-Saturdays. Groups range in size from 6 to 60. Day visits typically occur from 10am-2pm, and include milking our goats, feeding our chickens, an activity in our garden and a cooking activity or a hike. Overnight visits include more involved versions of the same, and also include things like a campfire and/or night hike. Overnight visitors often bring their own camping gear, although we have some gear to lend to groups who need it. Overnight groups also bring their own food for all meals which they cook themselves (we have all the cooking and serving gear - just bring the food). All of our activities are NGSS aligned, and can be taught thematically to match the interests of the group (for example, we can offer themes focusing on "food, clothing and shelter;" natural ecology; food systems; sustainability; stewardship etc). There are costs associated with visiting Slide Ranch, however we offer a wide range of scholarships and work hard to ensure no groups are turned away for lack of funds. Nestled on 400 acres in the heart of California's wine country, Safari West is home for over 400 exotic mammals and birds. Not a zoo, not a drive-through park, it's a wildlife preserve where the whole family can experience some of nature's most beautiful animals in a natural habitat. Established by Peter Lang in 1989, Safari West gained membership in the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, one of only six private facilities in North America to belong to that prestigious organization. The ongoing mission of Safari West is wildlife preservation through breeding, education, research and public interaction.
