"A hilarious musical melodrama!" raves LA Parent. An Our Times "Best Bet!" It's the heart-warming rhythm and boos musical comedy that offers great audience interaction as they boo the villain and cheer the heroine in the true spirit of the American Melodrama.
Did you know that Annie Oakley was a champion for equality and women's rights as far back as 1898 - a friend to the downtrodden and a role model for women everywhere? It's fact (although a little-known one). And now the legendary heroine is back, coming to the aid of a single mom and her daughters, struggling to find a balance between the bottom-line temptations of modern living and the comforting solid roots of tradition. Should Annie's Place, passed down through the generations of women in Kat's family, become the new-fangled, modernized Princess Cafe? That's exactly what wealthy land-owner Mable Q. Moneypots wants! But is the "out with the old, in with new" Moneypots mentality the right one? Should Princesses replace Cowgirls? Or is there a way to unite the old and the new? Audiences ages 2 to 102 help Annie, Kat and her girls hold their own against svelte but smarmy villain Mable Q. Moneypots, and create a whole new family tradition. Birthday and Tea Parties, hosted by one of the gaily costumed Playhouse actors are available in conjunction with the play for every performance.
Based on a short story by Emery Bernauer, and written and directed by Chris DeCarlo & Evelyn Rudie with lyrics and music by E. Rudie, Annie Oakley and the Princess Cafe features Actors' Repertory Theatre company members Mira Baum, Tiffany Haile, Sarai Jimenez, Adya Mohanty, Cydne Moore and Sabrina Twyla. The production, one of sixteen original fairy tales that are part of the Santa Monica Playhouse Family Theatre Musical Matinee Series, cuts across the imaginary generation gap by providing an experience that the entire family can enjoy. LA Times calls it "Highly enjoyable." Come see for yourself, y'all.
Saturdays 2pm, Sundays 12:30.

The Nitro World Games is the realization of an idea that's been years in the making. This is a competition designed to reinvigorate the world of action sports, a one-night televised event where trophies are awarded in FMX, BMX, skateboard, and scooter during a single three-hour broadcast. Last year, the world-class competitors showed off dozens of tricks that had never been seen before in competition, and a few that had never been seen before at all. In its second year, the Nitro World Games is set to exceed even that sky-high precedent. This mission began with a simple question: How can we use what we've learned to dramatically improve the competition landscape? In the end, answering that question led to a revamp of almost every aspect of competition, including events, formats, ramps, scoring, and qualifying. Simply put: You won't want to miss this.
